• PATEK PHILIPPE

To appreciate fully what distinguishes a Patek Philippe watch from any other you may previously have owned, you must go back in time.

It was in the sixteenth century that the rich culture of watchmaking first took root in Geneva. Much more than mere craftsmen, the city's early watchmakers were driven by an almost fanatical zeal to pursue beauty and perfection for their own sake.

Kept alive through successive generations, this ethic of 'pure' watchmaking was the foundation upon which Antoine Norbert de Patek started his business in 1839. He was joined a few years later by watchmaker Adrien Philippe. In a short time this partnership changed the course of watchmaking, introducing innovations, numerous patents, such as the winding crown and setting mechanism, and setting records for mechanical movement precision which still remain unbroken.

Not surprisingly, the company's reputation was soon established among discerning individuals who appreciate our vow to create 'the world's finest and most valuable watches'. Their long list of illustrious and distinguished customers includes such names as Queen Victoria, Piotr I. Tchaikovsky and Albert Einstein.

Today, in an ever-changing world, they adhere faithfully to the principles of their founders. In fact, they find themselves the only remaining independent family-owned company continuing the authentic Geneva watchmaking tradition. And they intend to stay that way.

Their current advertising campaign captures the essence: 'You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation.'
